Percussion recitals are not for everyone, but here is one I can heartily recommend. Percussionist-conductor-composer Michael Udow has put together Coyote Dreams in association with the University of Michigan percussion ensemble (which he directs), and the result is exceptional. The title track is Udow’s own work for marimba, a fiery, propulsive piece, unrelenting in its forward push until the slow section, where Udow’s writing often dazzles.
