Nur Slim is a Mexican composer and member of the National System of Art Creators (SNCA, 2023–2026). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Composition from the Escuela Superior de Música of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), where she studied under the mentorship of José Luis Castillo, and a Master’s degree in Music Education from the Faculty of Music at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Her music has been performed at institutions such as the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the University of New Mexico, the University of Northern Colorado, the University of Redlands (California), and the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic and Convention, as well as at international venues and festivals including Casa de las Américas (Cuba) and the International Festival of Living Arts in Loja (Ecuador). In 2025, her orchestral work Silencio Son was selected through the Mexican Composers Reading Panel of the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico and performed by the orchestra at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Her work Humming between branches was selected by the Dal Niente Ensemble for inclusion in the Library of Congress (United States). She has worked closely with the Amity Trio (USA) as a composer-in-residence, developing interdisciplinary projects such as the children’s operas Lucrecia y el canto de los dudasaurios and Oliverso. She is also the composer and scriptwriter of the television series Lucrecia the T-rex, produced by Amity Trio and broadcast on PBS in the United States.

She has received grants, awards, and recognitions from national and international institutions, including the RAC Proposal Award from the University of New Mexico for the opera Oliverso (2024), the IU Global Remixed Arts and Humanities Award (2022), the Women’s Philanthropy Leadership Council Grant from Indiana University (2022), and the Puffin Foundation West Grant (2022), the latter awarded for projects developed with the Amity Trio. She has also received multiple grants from Mexico’s Sistema de Apoyos a la Creación, including Jóvenes Creadores, Enartes, Projects for Children and Youth, and Fomento a Proyectos y Coinversiones Culturales, as well as support from the Ministry of Culture, Música UNAM, and the Raíz México program.

In the international academic and pedagogical field, she has presented papers and workshops at conferences such as the 3rd Paris Conference on Education (France), the Relational Summit: Playful Connections (Bloomington, Indiana, USA), and the GAPS Global Summit on Art and Psychology (Buenos Aires, Argentina). She has given masterclasses and lectures as a guest composer at Indiana University, the University of New Mexico, and the University of Northern Colorado. Within this context, she develops Animalezas Sonoras, her pedagogical research project focused on collaborative music creation for children, which has been presented at international conferences, implemented in university settings, and published in specialized journals such as Eufonía: Didactics of Music (Barcelona).

One of the most prominent and acclaimed voices in
contemporary Mexican jazz, with a career spanning over 30
years and with more than 21 recordings under her name. She
studied at The City College of New York. Her album, Caracolito,
was selected by iTunes as one of the best Latin jazz albums in
2012.

In 2023, she was awarded the Medal of Merit in the Arts by the
Congress of Mexico City.

She is a member of Mexico’s Sistema Nacional de Creadores
de Arte (SNCA, National System of Art Creators) 2023–2026.
